ANATOMY AND PLASTINATION LAB
Client: CURTIN UNIVERSITY
Builder: WESTERN PROJECTS
To modernize the B404 Anatomy Lab and address compliance issues concerning emergency egress, storage of hazardous materials, and ventilation, a complete refurbishment was carried out. The lab and plastination room were strictly regulated due to the preparation of human specimens for student learning, requiring measures to prevent contamination and proper waste management. Additionally, the plastination room was a spark-free zone due to the chemicals involved, requiring a custom freezer to be constructed.
Shape Management served as the Project Managers from concept design to final completion and acted as the Superintendent as well. Operating in a live environment, managing dangerous goods and gases, and considering the sensitivities surrounding the use of the room were a few of the project's challenges. The project was completed concurrently with a major mechanical services project in the building, with a different Lead Contractor, which was also managed by Shape Management.
The end result is a modern, user-friendly facility for the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences to continue their vital research.
